BORNE MICHELIN LYON N7
Price on request
Napoleon Bonaparte built the Route Impériale from Paris to Rome in 1811, which led to the creation of the 995km long Route Nationale 7 in 1824. This historic route runs from Paris through Lyon to Menton on the Italian border, and is known for its romantic and nostalgic allure. A restored Borne Michelin, originally from the 1930s, now sits at the junction of the D317, and an exact reproduction of the Lyon-Tarare side has been created from solid meranti with a special coating and authentic Michelin font. It comes with a Vinsign certificate and luxury postcard.
The Route Nationale 7, also known as the Route des vacances or the Route Soleil, was created in 1824 as a result of the construction of the Route Impériale by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1811. It spans 995 kilometers from Paris, passing through Lyon, Nice, and ending in Menton on the Italian border. The RN7 is a popular route for holidaymakers, taking them from the bustling Région Parisienne to the glamorous Cóte d’Azur.
The route’s popularity is due in part to its historical status as a romantic and nostalgic road, immortalized in Charles Trenet’s 1956 song, Route Bleue. The RN7 was once marked by the iconic Michelin Borne, a milestone marker that provided motorists with directions and information about their journey. The Borne was removed in the late 1930s to make way for a wider RN7 and was long forgotten until it was rediscovered a few years ago by Michel Calard and restored by Christan Patru.
Now, an exact reproduction of the Lyon-Tarare side of the Michelin Borne is available for purchase. The panel is made of solid meranti, completely handmade and hand-painted, and features a special coating that gives it an authentic look. The panel also bears the authentic Michelin font, complete with its peculiarities, which add to its historical appeal.
The reproduction comes with a Vinsign certificate, a unique production number, and a luxury postcard with a photo and description of the original Michelin Borne. It is an excellent addition to any collector’s or enthusiast’s collection and is sure to be a conversation starter. With its attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship, this reproduction is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Route Nationale 7 and the iconic Michelin Borne.
