Valognes, a 2000-year-old Gallic town located on the Cotentin peninsula along Route Nationale 13, was formerly known as Alauna. During World War II, heavy Allied bombings destroyed much of the town, and the Americans found it nearly deserted when they passed through on June 20, 1944. Today, a reproduction of the original sign the GI’s found stands as a reminder of the town’s past, and it comes with a Vinsign certificate, a unique production number, and a luxury postcard. Valognes is known as “Petit Versailles Normand,” a beautiful and historically rich town.
Valognes is a small Gallic town situated on the Cotentin peninsula in France, which has been around for two thousand years. The town was originally called Alauna. However, it gained recognition for its art and history and was famously known as “Petit Versailles Normand.” Unfortunately, during World War II, the town underwent severe bombing by the Allies on 6th, 7th, and 8th June 1944. As a result, the Americans found the town almost deserted when they passed through Valognes on their way from Montebourg to Cherbourg on 20th June 1944.
The historic town of Valognes, which had been known for its beauty, was almost completely destroyed. However, an exact replica of a panneau that the American GI’s found in 1944 has been created. The panneau replicates the original signpost that was present in the town during the war. The replica panneau is an exact copy of the original, with the same font and color as was used in the signpost. The design was carefully chosen by the creators to match an old film footage from 21st June 1944, making it historically accurate.
This replica panneau comes with a Vinsign certificate, a unique production number, and a luxury postcard that features a photo and description of the original signpost. The creators of the replica panneau aimed to preserve the historical significance of the original signpost that was destroyed during the war. With the exact replica, people can experience and appreciate the history of Valognes in its truest form.
