The Circuit de la Sarthe at Le Mans, famously known as “the 24 Hours of Le Mans” since 1923, is a legendary race track. In 1962, a photo captured the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO being transported to the track on a truck, also revealing the Poteau Michelin on the access road. While the original Poteau Michelin has disappeared, Vinsign has meticulously recreated an exact copy, with identical dimensions, colors, and even the unique lower font composed with handmade molds.
The Circuit de la Sarthe at Le Mans has been internationally renowned since 1923 as the venue for the iconic “24 Hours of Le Mans” race. In a vintage photograph from 1962, we see the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO being transported to the track on a truck. This photograph also happens to be the second known image of the Poteau Michelin, which was once positioned on the access road to Le Mans. However, the Poteau Michelin is no longer present at the location, with only a few other Michelin signs still on display at the Musée des 24 Heures du Mans.
After conducting extensive research and analysis, Vinsign has successfully produced an exact replica of the Poteau Michelin. The new sign is an identical copy of the original, featuring the same dimensions and colors. The lower font is particularly noteworthy as it is unique and was created using handmade molds. Vinsign has meticulously replicated this typeface, capturing every millimeter of detail from the original.
The Vinsign reproduction is crafted using layers of solid beech wood, which have been combined in a special manner to create a durable and permanent construction. The text plate comprises nine distinct layers that emulate the typical Michelin appearance. The sign is finished with two layers of a hard-wearing “concrete” material. The product is available with or without the characteristic Michelin leg.
