In the 1930s, the impressive Michelin Borne was placed on the old coast road Gc205 (now D 514). Sgt. Harry David, who later taught children about WWII, pointed to a bullet impact on the Borne at Juno Beach in 1944. Most Borne’s have been removed over time, but an exact reproduction of one side, made of solid meranti with an authentic Michelin font, is available with a Vinsign certificate and luxury postcard.
In the 1930s, a remarkable Michelin Borne was erected on the old coast road Gc205, which is now known as the D 514. These impressive signposts were designed as mushroom-shaped structures, standing on a concrete leg with a panel of lava stone on four sides that displayed road information. However, due to the passage of time, most of these Borne’s have been removed from the roads.
One such Borne, which was situated on the coast road, had a significant impact on the Canadian soldier, Sgt. Harry David from Ottawa, Ontario, when he landed on Juno Beach in June 1944. He pointed to a large bullet impact on the Borne, which had become a witness to the events of the Second World War. Harry David went on to be promoted after the war and later became a teacher, educating school children about the war.
The panel being referred to in this context is an exact replica of one side of the Michelin Borne. It includes the contours of the concrete frame and is of the highest quality, made from solid meranti wood, entirely handmade, hand-painted, and coated with a special coating. The authentic Michelin font, with its unique characteristics, has been used to provide the plaque with an authentic look.
The reproduction is a 1:1 scale of the original panel, which is a remarkable feat in itself. Additionally, the panel comes with a Vinsign certificate, a unique production number, and a luxury postcard that features a photo and description of the original Borne.
The Michelin Borne was an important landmark of its time, providing valuable information to travelers at crossings. The replica panel provides a glimpse of history and reminds us of the sacrifices made during the Second World War. It is a perfect addition to any collection of historical memorabilia, and it would be a fantastic way to teach future generations about the war and its significance.
