Hector Guimard (1867-1942) was the architect behind the iconic Paris Metro entrances, as well as many other buildings and structures designed in his extravagant Art Nouveau style. While initially criticized, his designs were later recognized for their unparalleled beauty. Guimard also created the distinctive lettering used on the Metro signage. Our panel is an exact replica of one of his Metro signs, made from solid beech and hand-painted with the authentic lettering. Customizable in size and design.
Hector Guimard was a renowned French architect born on March 10, 1867, in Lyon and passed away on May 20, 1942, in New York. He is best known for his work on the portals of the Paris Metro, which he designed with his extravagant Art Nouveau style. He also created numerous facades, balustrades, fences, and buildings that were adorned with his signature style.
For the first 50 years of his work, until the 1960s, Guimard’s designs were often criticized and disdained. However, as time passed, his work was recognized for its unparalleled beauty and became highly regarded. Guimard’s designs gave many parts of Paris, particularly the Metropolitain, a distinct and stunning appearance. He even created the unique font used on the typical Metro signage.
One of Guimard’s many signs can be found at the entrance portals of the Paris Metro. Our panel is an exact replica of this sign, made from solid beech and finished with a special lacquer technique. It is also hand-painted with the authentic font.
